To Be Continued ... Following The Spirit In Church Planting

IT IS RIGHT TO FOLLOW THE SPIRIT OF GOD BECAUSE...

1. THE SPIRIT CAN LEAD US TO THE RIGHT PLACE.

After this, Paul left Athens and went on to Corinth.

Acts 18:1 (GNB)

  • How does the Holy Spirit lead us in choosing the right place?

    • Through patterns in His word.

    • Through wisdom as we pray.

    • Through leaders as we follow.

    • Through circumstances that seem obvious.

2. THE SPIRIT CAN CONNECT US WITH THE RIGHT PEOPLE.

There he met a Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, for Emperor Claudius had ordered all the Jews to leave Rome. Paul went to see them, and stayed and worked with them, because he earned his living by making tents, just as they did. He held discussions in the synagogue every Sabbath, trying to convince both Jews and Greeks. When Silas and Timothy arrived from Macedonia, Paul gave his whole time to preaching the message, testifying to the Jews that Jesus is the Messiah. When they opposed him and said evil things about him, he protested by shaking the dust from his clothes and saying to them, “If you are lost, you yourselves must take the blame for it! I am not responsible. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.” So he left them and went to live in the house of a Gentile named Titius Justus, who worshiped God; his house was next to the synagogue.

Acts 18:2-7 (GNB)

  • Aquila and Pricillia (Rom. 16:3,4, Acts 18:18-28, 1Cor. 13:19)

  • Silas and Timothy (2 Cor 11:9, 1, 2 Timothy

  • Titius Justus (Acts 18:7)

3. THE SPIRIT CAN DISCIPLINE US WITH RIGHT PROBLEMS.

Crispus, who was the leader of the synagogue, believed in the Lord, together with all his family; and many other people in Corinth heard the message, believed, and were baptized.

Acts 18:6-8 (GNB)

  • Problems can discourage me.

  • Problems can encourage me.

All those who had been scattered by the persecution moved from place to place; and wherever they went, they weren’t afraid or silent. Instead, they spread the message of Jesus.

Acts 8:4 (VOICE)

  • Problems should develop me.

Endure hardship as discipline; No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. "Make level paths for your feet," so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.

Hebrews 12:7, 11-13 (NIV)

In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead.

2 Corinthians 1:9 (LB)

4. THE SPIRIT CAN SUSTAIN US WITH THE RIGHT PROMISES.

One night Paul had a vision in which the Lord said to him, “Do not be afraid, but keep on speaking and do not give up, for I am with you. No one will be able to harm you, for many in this city are my people.” So Paul stayed there for a year and a half, teaching the people the word of God.

Acts 18:9-11 (GNB)

“So you must go and make disciples of all nations. Baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And you can be sure that I am always with you, to the very end."

Matthew 28:19, 20 (NIrV)

5. THE SPIRIT CAN ENABLE US WITH THE RIGHT POWER.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

Acts 1:8 (NIV)

I pray that from His glorious, unlimited resources He will empower you with inner strength through His Spirit.

Ephesians 3:16 (NLT)
