- Unmistakable: Lessons For Life From 1 Peter #4 - Unmistakable Submission ... Unmistakable Success
Submission: an act of submitting to the authority or control of another (Uypotassō) A military term meaning "to arrange [troop divisions] in a military fashion under the command of a leader". In non-military use, "a voluntary attitude of giving in, cooperating…" Success: a favorable or desired outcome FOR A CHRIST-FOLLOWER… Success is not promoting self; it is exalting Christ. Success is not securing a position; it is saving people. So then, prepare your hearts and your minds for action! Stay alert and fix your hope firmly on the marvelous grace that is coming to you. 1 Peter 1:13 Dear friends, I urge you as foreigners and exiles to keep away from fleshly desires that do battle against the soul, maintain good conduct among the non-Christians so that though[c] they now malign you as wrongdoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God when he appears. 1 Peter 2:11-12 (NEB) MY CALL TO SUBMISSION AND THE SUCCESS IT CAN BRING 1. AS A BELIEVER I AM TO SUBMIT TO GOD. For the Lord's sake submit yourselves… 1 Peter 2:13a (ISV) All other submission flows from my submission to Christ. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God. Romans 8:6-8 (NIV) My submission success: God’s guidance, life and peace. Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey--whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? Romans 6:16 (NIV) The real question is not will I submit, but to who will I submit. 2. AS A BELIEVER I AM TO SUBMIT TO THE GOVERNMENT. For the Lord's sake submit yourselves to every human authority: whether to the king as supreme, or to governors who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to praise those who do right 1 Peter 2:13, 14 (ISV) Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God. Give to everyone what you owe them: Pay your taxes and government fees to those who collect them, and give respect and honor to those who are in authority. Romans 12:1, 7 (NIV) My submission success: I protect Christ’s name. For it is God's will that by doing right you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people. 1 Peter 2:15 (ISV) Treat everyone you meet with dignity. Love your spiritual family. Revere God. Respect the government. 1 Peter 2:17 (MP) Note: All are decisions and/or actions, none are feelings Live as free people, but don't hide behind your freedom....Instead, use your freedom to serve God. 1 Peter 2:16 (GW) 3. AS A BELIEVER I AM TO SUBMIT TO MY BOSS. You who are slaves must accept the authority of your masters with all respect. Do what they tell you--not only if they are kind and reasonable, but even if they are cruel. 1 Peter 2:18 (NLT) My submission success: I receive God’s approval. For God is pleased with you when you do what you know is right and patiently endure unfair treatment. 1 Peter 2:19 (NLT) My submission success: I become more Christlike. For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in His steps. 1 Peter 2:21 (NLT) 4. AS A BELIEVER I AM TO SUBMIT TO MY SKEPTICAL SPOUSE. Wives, in the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands… 1 Peter 3:1 (NIV) In the same spirit you married women should adapt yourselves to your husbands… 1 Peter 3:1 (Phillips) My submission success: A greater likelihood of winning my mate. …so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives… 1 Peter 2:21 (NLT)
- Unmistakable: Lessons For Life From 1 Peter #2 - Unmistakable Holiness (Part 2)
UNMISTAKABLE HOLINESS COMES WHEN … 1. I EMBRACE WHAT IT MEANS TO BE HOLY. Simon Peter replied, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life. We believe, and we know You are the Holy One of God.” John 6:68-69 (NLT) Prescribed definition of Holy: Set apart for a notable purpose. Practical definition: Being different than the world and being like Jesus. But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people… 1 Peter 2:9 (KJV) 2. I EMBRACE THAT I AM CALLED TO BE HOLY. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do… 1 Peter 1:15 (NIV) …He destined us ... to share the likeness of his Son. Romans 8:29a (MP) Christianity is about being like Jesus, not simply being saved by Jesus. 3. I EMBRACE WHY I AM CALLED TO BE HOLY. I am called to holiness because God is holy. …the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:16 (NLT) I’m called to holiness because be holy to fulfill God’s purpose. But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God's instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you. 1 Peter 2:9 (MP) When I am holy, I bring glory to God, and I bring hope to people. 4. I EMBRACE HOW I CAN BECOME HOLY IN ALL I DO. I COMMIT TO A DIFFERENT WAY OF THINKING. Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you … Romans 12: 2 (NLT) I think proactively not passively. Wherefore girding up the loins of your mind, be sober… 1 Peter 1:13a (RV) So roll up your sleeves, put your mind in gear…. 1 Peter 1:13 (MP) In the way that nursing infants cry for milk, you must intensely crave the pure spiritual milk of God’s Word. For this “milk” will cause you to grow… 1 Peter 2:2 I think positively not pessimistically. …and set your hope perfectly on the grace that is to be brought unto you… 1 Peter 1:13b (RV) I think eternally not temporally. … to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 1 Peter 1:13c (RV) For you have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God. As the Scriptures say, "People are like grass; their beauty is like a flower in the field. The grass withers and the flower fades. But the word of the Lord remains forever." And that word is the Good News that was preached to you. 1 Peter 1:23-25 (NLT) Friends, this world is not your home, so don't make yourselves cozy in it. Don't indulge your ego at the expense of your soul. 1 Peter 2:11 (MP) I COMMIT TO A DIFFERENT WAY OF ACTING. SO be done with every trace of wickedness and all deceit and insincerity (pretense, hypocrisy) and grudges (envy, jealousy) and slander and evil speaking of every kind. 1 Peter 2:1 (AMP) For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age… Titus 2:11-12 (NIV) In the past you wasted too much time doing what those who don’t know God like to do. You were living immoral lives, … were always getting drunk, having wild drinking parties, and doing shameful things in your worship of idols. Now those “friends” think it is strange that you no longer join them in all the wild and wasteful things they do…so they say bad things about you. 1 Peter 4:3-4 (ERV) Live an exemplary life among the natives so that your actions will refute their prejudices. Then they'll be won over to God's side and be there to join in the celebration when he arrives. 1 Peter 2:12 (MP) REMEMBER: A purposeful God calls me to be a purposeful person!

So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world. So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.” And remember that the heavenly Father to whom you pray has no favorites. He will judge or reward you according to what you do. So you must live in reverent fear of him during your time here as “temporary residents.” For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. God chose him as your ransom long before the world began, but now in these last days he has been revealed for your sake. Through Christ you have come to trust in God. And you have placed your faith and hope in God because he raised Christ from the dead and gave him great glory. You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth, so now you must show sincere love to each other as brothers and sisters. Love each other deeply with all your heart. For you have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God. As the Scriptures say, “People are like grass; their beauty is like a flower in the field. The grass withers and the flower fades. But the word of the Lord remains forever.” 1 Peter 1:13-25 (NLT) UNMISTAKABLE HOLINESS COMES WHEN … 1. I EMBRACE WHAT IT MEANS TO BE HOLY. Simon Peter replied, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life. We believe, and we know You are the Holy One of God.” John 6:68-69 (NLT) No wonder My heart is glad, and My tongue shouts His praises! My body rests in hope. For You will not leave My soul among the dead or allow Your Holy One to rot in the grave. Acts 2:26-27 (NLT) Formal definition of Holy: Set apart for a notable purpose. Practical definition: Being different than the world and being like Jesus. If you call "Father" the one who judges everyone impartially according to what they have done, you must live in reverent fear as long as you are strangers in a strange land. 1 Peter 1:17 (ISV) But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people… 1 Peter 2:9 (KJV) 2. I EMBRACE THAT I AM CALLED TO BE HOLY. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do… 1 Peter 1:15 (NIV) For [as a believer] you have been called for this purpose, since Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you may follow in His footsteps. 1 Peter 2:21 (AMP) God knew what he was doing from the very beginning. He decided from the outset to shape the lives of those who love him along the same lines as the life of his Son. The Son stands first in the line of humanity he restored. We see the original and intended shape of our lives there in him. Romans 8:29 (MP) Christianity was/is more about being like Jesus; than simply being saved by Jesus. 3. I EMBRACE WHY I AM CALLED TO BE HOLY. I am called to holiness because God is Holy. …the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:16 (NLT) Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. 2 Peter 1:4 (NIV) When I am holy, I bring glory to God. I finished the work you gave me…. I brought you glory on earth. John 17:4 (ERV) The only thing they heard about me was this: “Our former enemy, who once brutally persecuted us, is now preaching the good news of the faith that he was once obsessed with destroying!” 24 Because of the transformation that took place in my life, they praised God even more! Galatians 1:23, 24 You pride yourself in having God’s law, then stop dishonoring God by failing to keep its teaching. 24 Here’s what it says: “Because of you, God’s reputation is slandered by those outside the covenant. Romans 2:23, 24 (VOICE) I am called to holiness being holy, is essential to fulfilling my God given purpose. But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God's instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you. 1 Peter 2:9 (MP) When I am holy, I bring hope to people. Live an exemplary life among the natives so that your actions will refute their prejudices. Then they'll be won over to God's side and be there to join in the celebration when he arrives. 1 Peter 2:12 (MP) A purposeful God calls us to be a purposeful people!
