  • How Remember Him, Helps Me

You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others. 3 Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer. 5 Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor’s crown except by competing according to the rules. 6 The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops. 7 Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this. 8 Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel, 9 for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God’s word is not chained. 10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. 11 Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; 12 if we endure, we will also reign with him.  If we disown him, he will also disown us; 13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself. 2 TIMOTHY 2:1-13 Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel… 2 Timothy 2: 8 NIV 1.     Remembering Jesus helps me appreciate my salvation. You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 2:1 NIV This statement is completely reliable and should be universally accepted: “Christ Jesus entered the world to rescue sinners”. I realize that I was the worst of them all, and that because of this very fact God was particularly merciful to me. 16 It was a demonstration of the extent of Christ’s patience towards the worst of men, to serve as an example to all who in the future should trust him for eternal life. 1 Timothy 1:15, 16 Phillips For it is Christ’s love that motivates us, because we are absolutely convinced that he has given his life for all of us. 15 so that those who live should no longer live self-absorbed lives but lives that are poured out for him—the one who died for us and now lives again.  2 Corinthians 5:14, 15 TPT 2.     Remembering Jesus helps me to accept my mission. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others. 2 Timothy 2:2 NIV All this is God’s doing, for he has reconciled us to himself through Jesus Christ; and he has made us agents of the reconciliation. God was in Christ personally reconciling the world to himself—not counting their sins against them—and has commissioned us with the message of reconciliation. We are now Christ’s ambassadors… 2 Corinthians 5:18, 19 Phillips God’s amazing grace has made me who I am! And his grace to me was not fruitless. In fact, I worked harder than the rest, yet not in my own strength but God’s, for his empowering grace is poured out upon me. 1 Corinthians 15:10 TPT 3.      Remembering Jesus helps me approach my preparation. Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 2:3-7 NIV 4.       Remembering Jesus helps me accomplish my mission. This is my gospel,9 for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God’s word is not chained. 10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. 2 Timothy 2:8b-10 NIV We must focus on Jesus, the source and goal of our faith. He saw the joy ahead of him, so he endured death on the cross and ignored the disgrace… Now he holds the honored position—the one next to God the Father on the heavenly throne. 3 Think about Jesus, who endured opposition from sinners, so that you don’t become tired and give up. Hebrews 12:2, 3 GW 5.       Remembering Jesus HELP alert me to my condition. Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; 12 if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, HE will also disown us; 13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself. 2 Timothy 2:11-13 NIV Everyone who acknowledges Me publicly here on earth, I will also acknowledge before My Father in heaven.  33 But everyone who denies Me here on earth, I will also deny before My Father in heaven. Matthew 10:32, 33 NLT “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’  24“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who builds his house on the rock. Down came the rain and up came the floods, while the winds blew and roared upon that house—and it did not fall because its foundations were on the rock. 26-27 “And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not follow them can be compared with a foolish man who built his house on sand. Down came the rain and up came the floods, while the winds blew and battered that house till it collapsed, and fell with a great crash.”  Matthew 7:21-23 NIV 24-27 Phillips

  • I RESOLVE TO TAKE RISKS

On one occasion, while the crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret, and he saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon's, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat. And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” And when they had done this, they enclosed a large number of fish, and their nets were breaking. They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.” For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish that they had taken, and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.” And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him. • To Be Continued ... #38 Continuing Resolution - Part 2

ACTS IMPACT MUST BE CONTINUED, SO I RESOLVE THAT… 1. I WILL CHOOSE TO BE A RESPONSIBLE DISCIPLE. In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Hellenistic Jews[a] among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.” Acts 6:1-4 NIV • This “responsibility,” requires someone responsible. Take the teachings that you heard me proclaim in the presence of many witnesses, and entrust them to reliable people, who will be able to teach others also. 2 Timothy 2:2 GNT … Moses took his place to judge the people. People were standing before him all day long, from morning to night. When Moses’ father-in-law saw all that he was doing for the people, he said, “What’s going on here? Why are you doing all this, and all by yourself, letting everybody line up before you from morning to night?” Moses’ father-in-law said, “This is no way to go about it. You’ll burn out, and the people right along with you. This is way too much for you—you can’t do this alone. Exodus 18:13,14, 17 MP “I looked for someone who might rebuild the wall of righteousness that guards the land. I searched for someone to stand in the gap in the wall so I wouldn’t have to destroy the land, but I found no one.” Ezekiel 22:30 NLT Then I heard the voice of the Lord God. He said, ‘Is there anyone that I can send with my message? Who will go on our behalf?’ I said, ‘I am here. Send me!’ Isaiah 6:8 EASY 2. I WILL BE COMMITED TO MAKING CHRIST’S CHURCH DIVERSE. Jesus … said to them, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Go, then, to all peoples everywhere and make them my disciples…” Matthew 28:18-19a GNT Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language. And they were amazed and astonished, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? Parthians and Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians—we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God.” Acts 2:5-11 ESV The church in Antioch had grown strong, with many prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon (a dark man from Central Africa), Lucius (from Cyrene in North Africa), Manaen (a member of Herod’s governing council), and Saul. Acts 13:1 VOICE Peter said, “Now I know for certain that God doesn’t show favoritism with people but treats everyone on the same basis. It makes no difference what race of people one belongs to. If they show deep reverence for God, and are committed to doing what’s right, they are acceptable before him. Acts 10:34-35 TPT I looked again. I saw a huge crowd, too huge to count. Everyone was there—all nations and tribes, all races and languages. And they were standing, dressed in white robes and waving palm branches, standing before the Throne and the Lamb… Revelation 7:9a MP 3. I WILL CONTINUE TO FUNCTION IN SPITE OF PERSECUTION. So now, Lord, listen to their threats to harm us. Empower us, as your servants, to speak the word of God freely and courageously. Acts 4:29 TPT As the rocks rained down, Stephen prayed, “Master Jesus, take my life.” Then he knelt down, praying loud enough for everyone to hear, “Master, don’t blame them for this sin”—his last words. Then he died. Saul was right there, congratulating the killers. Acts 7:59-60 MP On that very day a great storm of persecution burst upon the Church in Jerusalem. All Church members except the apostles were scattered.…, Saul harassed the Church bitterly. He would go from house to house, drag out both men and women and have them committed to prison. Those who were dispersed by this action went throughout the country, preaching the good news of the message as they went. Acts 8:1-4 PHILLIPS Don’t be afraid of what will happen to you. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison. He will do this to test you. You will suffer for ten days, but be faithful, even if you have to die. If you continue to be faithful, I will give you the reward of life. Revelation 2:10 ERV

  • To Be Continued ... #38 Continuing Resolutions - Part 1

ACTS IMPACT MUST BE CONTINUED, SO I RESOLVE THAT… 1. I WILL SUBMIT TO THE JESUS OF ACTS. All the people of Israel should know beyond a doubt that God made Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ… Peter said much more to warn them. He urged, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” Act 2:36, 40 (GW) ● Jesus will be my LORD! ● Jesus will be my anointed KING! …after his suffering he showed himself alive to them in many convincing ways and appeared to them repeatedly over a period of forty days talking with them about the affairs of the KINGdom of God. Acts 1:3 (PHILLIPS) He bravely preached about God's KINGdom and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ, and no one tried to stop him. Acts 28:31 (NLT) ● Jesus will be my SAVIOR! 2. I WILL SURRENDER MY LIFE TO CHRIST'S PURPOSE. So when the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking him, “Lord, has the time come for you to free Israel and restore our kingdom?” He replied, “The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:6-8 (NLT) ● The POWER was given for the PURPOSE. Peter said to them, “Each one of you must turn away from your sins and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, so that your sins will be forgiven; and you will receive God's gift, the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38 (GW) Don’t drink too much wine, for many evils lie along that path; be filled instead with the Holy Spirit and controlled by him. Ephesians 5:18 (TLB) If you use your lives to do what your sinful selves want, you will die spiritually. But if you use the Spirit's help to stop doing the wrong things you do with your body, you will have true life. Romans 8:13 (ERV) Then Jesus said, “All the authority of the universe has been given to me. Now wherever you go [GO IN MY AUTHORITY], make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And teach them to faithfully follow all that I have commanded you. And never forget that I am with you every day, even to the completion of this age.” Matthew 28:18-20 (TP) 3. I WILL CONTRIBUTE TO GODLY FELLOWSHIP. All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer. Acts 2:42 (NLT) The believers spent their time listening to the teaching of the apostles. They shared everything with each other. They ate together and prayed together. Acts 2:42 ERV All the believers were in fellowship as one body, and they shared with one another whatever they had. Out of generosity they even sold their assets to distribute the proceeds to those who were in need among them. Acts 2:44, 45 TP I will be committed to… I will be committed to studying God's Word. I will be committed to giving generously. I will be committed to eating together. I will be committed to praying together. 4. I WILL CHAMPION A MIGHTY GOD. As soon as they were freed, Peter and John returned to the other believers and told them what the leading priests and elders had said. When they heard the report, all the believers lifted their voices together in prayer to God: "O Sovereign Lord, Creator of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them You spoke long ago by the Holy Spirit through our ancestor David, Your servant, saying, 'Why were the nations so angry? Why did they waste their time with futile plans? The kings of the earth prepared for battle; the rulers gathered together against the LORD and against His Messiah.' "In fact, this has happened here in this very city! For Herod Antipas, Pontius Pilate the governor, the Gentiles, and the people of Israel were all united against Jesus, Your holy servant, whom You anointed. But everything they did was determined beforehand according to Your will. And now, O Lord, hear their threats, and give us, Your servants, great boldness in preaching Your word. Stretch out Your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of Your holy servant Jesus." After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness. Acts 4:23 - 31 NLT

  • Christmas Road Trip: #4 On the Road to Love

In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God.  2  He was already with God in the beginning. 3  Everything came into existence through him. Not one thing that exists was made without him… 14 The Word became human and lived among us. We saw his glory. It was the glory that the Father shares with his only Son, a glory full of kindness and truth. John 1:2,3, 14 (GW) 3 WAYS JESUS BECOMING HUMAN DISPLAYS GOD’S LOVE FOR ME: 1. BY SACRIFICING HIS BODY TO SAVE ME. She will have a son, and you will name Him Jesus, which means “the Lord saves,” because this Jesus is the person who will save all of His people from sin. Matthew 1:21 (VOICE) I, the Son of Man, came to look for people who are far away from God. They are in danger, and I have come to save them.’ Luke 19:10 (EASY) I received the good news from Christ, and I told that message to you. I told you the most important things Christ died as a sacrifice for our sins. The Bible already said how that would happen. 1 Corinthians 15:3 EASY Then he took bread, and he thanked God for it. He broke the bread into pieces and gave it to each of them. He said, ‘This is my body. I am giving it to save you. When you eat this meal from now on, remember me.’ Luke 22:19 (EASY) For this is the blood that seals the new covenant. It will be poured out for many for the complete forgiveness of sins. Matthew 26:28 (TP) The giving of Christ’s life began at Christ’s birth. Christ himself was like God in everything. But he did not think that being equal with God was something to be used for his own benefit. 7  But he gave up his place with God and made himself nothing. He was born as a man and became like a servant. 8  And when he was living as a man, he humbled himself and was fully obedient to God, even when that caused his death—death on a cross. Philippians 2:6-8 (NCV) …our love for him comes as a result of his loving us first. 1 John 4:19 (TLB) So, we must cling in faith to all we know to be true. For we have a magnificent King-Priest, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who rose into the heavenly realm for us, now sympathizes with us in our frailty.  15 He understands humanity, for as a Man, our magnificent King-Priest was tempted in every way just as we are, and conquered sin. Hebrews 4:14-15 (TP) 2. BY LEAVING HIS BODY TO SUPPORT ME. He is the head of his body, the church. He is the beginning, the first of those to be reborn from the dead, so that in every aspect, at every view, in everything—He is first. Colossians 1:18 (VOICE) Jesus gave his body for my eternal need then… Be careful for yourselves and for all the people God has given you. The Holy Spirit gave you the work of caring for this flock. You must be shepherds to the church of God, the people he bought with his own blood. Acts 20:28 (ERV) Love one another - Honor one another - Instruct one another - Care for one another – Carry one another’s burdens – Teach one another - Counsel one another - Encourage each other - Spur one another on - Confess your sins to one another – Pray for one another - Offer hospitality to one another - Serve one another – 59 OCCURRENCES! 3. BY COMMISSIONING HIS BODY TO SANCTIFY ME. …You are a special people that God has chosen. …priests who serve a King. You are his own holy people who belong to him. He has taken you out of the dark place of sin, and he has brought you into his great light. He has done all this so that you can tell people how great he is. 1 Peter 2:9-10 (EASY) … this is a gift from our Creator God, who has pursued us and brought us into a restored and healthy relationship with Him through the Anointed. And He has given us the same mission, the ministry of reconciliation, to bring others back to Him.  19  It is central to our good news that God was in the Anointed making things right between Himself and the world. This means He does not hold their sins against them. But it also means He charges us to proclaim the message that heals and restores our broken relationships with God and each other. 2 Corinthians 5:18-19 (VOICE)

  • Christmas Road Trip: #3 On the Road to Joy

I CAN TRAVEL THE ROAD OF JOY IF I CHOOSE TO… LISTEN CAREFULLY TO GOD’S MESSAGE. SHEPHERDS: The angel said, “Don’t be afraid! Look! I bring good news to you—wonderful, joyous news for all people. Your savior is born today in David’s city. He is Christ the Lord. This is a sign for you: you will find a newborn baby wrapped snugly and lying in a manger.” Luke 2:10-12 CEB WISE MEN: I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth. Numbers 24:17 KJV US: Making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding. Proverbs 2:2 ESV 2. ACT UPON GOD’S INSTRUCTIONS. SHEPHERDS: When the angels returned to heaven, the shepherds said to each other, “Let’s go right now to Bethlehem and see what’s happened. Let’s confirm what the Lord has revealed to us.” They went quickly and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the manger. Luke 2:15-16 CEB WISE MEN: After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in the territory of Judea during the rule of King Herod, magi came from the east to Jerusalem. They asked, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We’ve seen his star in the east, and we’ve come to honor him.” Matthew 2:1-2 CEB US: I have obeyed my Father’s commands, and I remain in his love. In the same way, if you obey my commands, you will remain in my love. I have told you these things so that you can have the same joy I have and so that your joy will be the fullest possible joy. John 15:10 -11 NCV But prove yourselves doers of the word [actively and continually obeying God’s precepts], and not merely listeners [who hear the word but fail to internalize its meaning], deluding yourselves [by unsound reasoning contrary to the truth]. James 1:22 AMP 3. GIVE OTHERS THE JOY I HAVE BEEN GIVEN. SHEPHERDS: When they saw this, they reported what they had been told about this child. Everyone who heard it was amazed at what the shepherds told them…The shepherds returned home, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen. Everything happened just as they had been told. Luke 2:17-20 CEB WISE MEN: They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet: ‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’” Matthew 2:5-6 ESV US: And when the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord, and as many as were appointed to eternal life believed. And the word of the Lord was spreading throughout the whole region. And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit. Acts 13:48-49, 52 ESV I CAN BE JOYFUL BECAUSE JESUS PROVED THAT… I AM LOVED. God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 NIV 2. I AM VALUABLE AND REDEEMABLE. But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. Romans 5:8-10 ESV Let us look only to [keep our eyes on] Jesus, the One who began [Pioneer/Founder of; or Leader/Prince of] our faith and who makes it perfect [completes it]. He suffered death on [endured] the cross, accepting the shame as if it were nothing [ disregarding/despising the shame] because of the joy that God put before [lay ahead for] him. And now he is sitting at the right side [hand] of God’s throne. Hebrews 12:2 EXB 3. I AM USEFUL. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go & bear fruit and that your fruit should abide. John 15:16 ESV

  • Christmas Road Trip #2 - Reasons That The Road To Christ Is The Road To Hope

REASONS THAT THE ROAD TO CHRIST IS THE ROAD TO HOPE 1. BECAUSE OF THE PURPOSE JESUS EMBODIED. …She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins. Matthew 1:21 (NIV) Something happened today in the town of David. Someone special was born. He is the one who will save you. He is the Messiah. He is the Lord. Luke 2:10, 11 (EEB) Most seek a Savior; wise men seek a savior and King. Seek first [Be concerned above all else with] God’s kingdom and ·what God wants [L his righteousness]. Then all ·your other needs will be met as well [L these things will be given to you]. Matthew 6:33 (EXB) 2. BECAUSE OF THE PEOPLE JESUS INCLUDED. Those he chose to include in his lineage. Those to whom he chose to announce His birth. Those he chose to be in His inner circle. Go to all peoples everywhere and make them my disciples: baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit… Matthew 28:19 (GNV) 3. BECAUSE OF THE PRICE THAT JESUS PAID. The plain fact is that bull and goat blood can’t get rid of sin. That is what is meant by this prophecy, put in the mouth of Christ: You don’t want sacrifices and offerings year after year; you’ve prepared a body for me for a sacrifice. It’s not fragrance and smoke from the altar that whet your appetite. So I said, “I’m here to do it your way, O God, the way it’s described in your Book.” When he said, “You don’t want sacrifices and offerings,” he was referring to practices according to the old plan. When he added, “I’m here to do it your way,” he set aside the first in order to enact the new plan—God’s way—by which we are made fit for God by the once-for-all sacrifice of Jesus. Hebrews 10:4-10 (MSG) Look! This man is more than He seems! He is the Lamb sent from God, the sacrifice to erase the sins of the world! John 1:29b (VOICE) …the Son of Man did not come to be served… he came to serve others. He came to give his life as the price for setting people free.” Mark 10:45 (NIRV) 4. BECAUSE OF THE POWER THAT JESUS DEMONSTRATED. You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us! Romans 5:6, 7 (NIV) I want you to know about the great and mighty power that God has for us followers. It is the same wonderful power he used 20 when he raised Christ from death and let him sit at his right side in heaven. Ephesians 1:19-20 (CEV) Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah." 37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?" 38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call." 40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, "Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.". Acts 2:36-40 (NIV) For in baptism your old, evil nature died with him and was buried with him; and then you came up out of death with him into a new life because you trusted the Word of the mighty God who raised Christ from the dead. Colossians 2:12 (TLB)

  • Christmas Road Trip #1 - Secrets To Not Getting Lost

EVERYONE IN THE NATIVITY WAS ON A JOURNEY FOR THE AGES Joseph and Mary were on a journey to register for the census. Because Joseph … had to go to Bethlehem in Judea, David's ancient home. He traveled there from the village of Nazareth in Galilee. He took with him Mary, his fiancée, who was now obviously pregnant. Luke 2:4, 5 (NLT) The angels were on a journey to announce the birth of Christ. That night there were shepherds staying in the fields nearby…. Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded them. They were terrified, but the angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger.” Luke 2:8-11 (NLT) The Shepherds were on a journey for clarification. When the angels had returned to heaven, the shepherds said to each other, “Let’s go to Bethlehem! Let’s see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” Luke 2:15(NLT) The Maji were on a journey to find and worship the new king. Jesus was born in Bethlehem …About that time some wise men[a] from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem, asking, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose,[b] and we have come to worship him.” Matthew 2:1,2 (NLT) Herod was on a journey to eliminate the new king. King Herod was deeply disturbed when he heard this…. Matthew 2:3 (NLT) Jesus was on a journey to save mankind from our sin. She will have a son, and you will name Him Jesus, which means “the Lord saves,” because this Jesus is the person who will save all of His people from sin. Matthew 1:21 (Voice) Here's a word you can take to heart and depend on: Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. 1 Timothy 1:15 (MP) EVERYONE PRESENT TODAY IS ON A JOURNEY FOR THE AGES 4 Secrets Jesus Revealed to Keep You and I From Getting Lost You can enter true life only through the narrow gate. The gate to hell is very wide, and there is plenty of room on the road that leads there. Many people go that way. But the gate that opens the way to true life is narrow. And the road that leads there is hard to follow. Only a few people find it.” Be careful of false prophets. They come to you and look gentle like sheep. But they are really dangerous like wolves... “Not everyone who calls me Lord will enter God’s kingdom. The only people who will enter are those who do what my father in heaven wants.” Matthew 7:13-15, 21 (ERV) 1. THE EASY ROAD ISN’T ALWAYS THE RIGHT ROAD. v. 13, 14a 2. GETTING LOST IS A REAL POSSIBILITY. v. 14b 3. NOT ALL DIRECTIONS ARE GOOD DIRECTIONS. v.15 I trust Jesus because of the evidence. Evidence found in scripture. Evidence found in history. "I am not crazy, most excellent Festus," Paul replied. "What I am saying is true and reasonable. The king is familiar with these things. So I can speak openly to him. I am certain he knows everything that has been going on. After all, it was not done in secret. Acts 26:25, 26 (NIrV) I trust Jesus because of the road He traveled for me. The road from heaven to earth. The road from Jerusalem to Golgotha. 4. GETTING MY DIRECTION IS USELESS UNLESS YOU FOLLOW MY DIRECTION. v. 21 It is in the plan that all men die once. After that, they will stand before God and be judged. Hebrews 9:27 (NLV)

  • To Be Continued ... #37 A Strategy For Surviving Spiritual Storms Part 2

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:12 (NIV) SURVIVING THE STORMS REQUIRES ME TO BE AWARE THAT… 1. MY SAILING WILL NOT BE SMOOTH. Because God uses difficulty to exhibit my devotion. Because God uses difficulty to enhance my development. Awareness allows for preparedness. 2. GODLY LEADERSHIP WILL BE ESSENTIAL Godly leaders provide the instruction I need. So Paul warned them. “Men, I can see that our voyage is going to be disastrous and bring great loss to ship and cargo, and to our own lives also.” Acts 27:9b, 10 (NIV) But the centurion, instead of listening to what Paul said, followed the advice of the pilot and of the owner of the ship. Acts 27:11 (NIV) Since the harbor was unsuitable to winter in, the majority decided that we should sail on, hoping to reach Phoenix and winter there. This was a harbor in Crete, facing both southwest and northwest. When a gentle south wind began to blow, they saw their opportunity; so they weighed anchor and sailed along the shore of Crete. Before very long, a wind of hurricane force, called the Northeaster, swept down from the island. The ship was caught by the storm and could not head into the wind; so we gave way to it and were driven along.  As we passed to the lee of a small island called Cauda, we were hardly able to make the lifeboat secure, so the men hoisted it aboard. Then they passed ropes under the ship itself to hold it together. Because they were afraid they would run aground on the sandbars of Syrtis, they lowered the sea anchor [b]  and let the ship be driven along. We took such a violent battering from the storm that the next day they began to throw the cargo overboard.  On the third day, they threw the ship’s tackle overboard with their own hands.  When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days and the storm continued raging, we finally gave up all hope of being saved. Acts 27:12-20 (NIV) Godly leaders provide the correction I need. After they had gone a long time without food, Paul stood up before them and said: “Men, you should have taken my advice not to sail from Crete; then you would have spared yourselves this damage and loss. Acts 27:21(NIV) NOTE: If I won’t listen, God can’t protect me. Godly leaders provide the encouragement I need. But now I urge you to keep up your courage, because not one of you will be lost; only the ship will be destroyed. Last night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood beside me and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul. You must stand trial before Caesar; and God has graciously given you the lives of all who sail with you.’ So keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me. Nevertheless, we must run aground on some island.” … “For the last fourteen days,” he said, “you have been in constant suspense and have gone without food—you haven’t eaten anything. Now I urge you to take some food. You need it to survive. Not one of you will lose a single hair from his head.” After he said this, he took some bread and gave thanks to God in front of them all. Then he broke it and began to eat. They were all encouraged and ate some food themselves. Altogether there were 276 of us on board. When they had eaten as much as they wanted, they lightened the ship by throwing the grain into the sea. Acts 27:22-25; 33-38 (NIV) NOTE: The more storms that are faced, the more leaders are required. 3. FAITHFUL FRIENDS ENABLE SURVIVAL AND SANITY That night the Master appeared to Paul: “It’s going to be all right. Everything is going to turn out for the best. You’ve been a good witness for me here in Jerusalem. Now you’re going to be my witness in Rome!” Acts 23:11 (MP) The next day the Jews worked up a plot against Paul …. Paul’s nephew, his sister’s son, overheard them plotting the ambush. He went immediately to the barracks and told Paul. Acts 23:12, 16 (MP) As soon as it was decided that we should sail away to Italy, Paul and some other prisoners were put in charge of a centurion named Julius, of the emperor’s own regiment. We embarked on a ship hailing from Adramyttium, bound for the Asian ports, and set sail. Among our company was Aristarchus, a Macedonian from Thessalonica. Acts 27:1-2 Phillips …when we arrived in Macedonia, our bodies had no ease or rest, but we were oppressed in every way and afflicted at every turn—fighting and contentions without, dread and fears within. But God, Who comforts and encourages and refreshes and cheers the depressed and the sinking, comforted and encouraged and refreshed and cheered us by the arrival of Titus. 2 Corinthians 7:5, 6 (AMPC) So Joshua and his men went out to fight the army of Amalek. Meanwhile Moses, Aaron, and Hur went to the top of the hill. And as long as Moses held up the rod in his hands, Israel was winning; but whenever he rested his arms at his sides, the soldiers of Amalek were winning. Moses’ arms finally became too tired to hold up the rod any longer; so Aaron and Hur rolled a stone for him to sit on, and they stood on each side, holding up his hands until sunset. As a result, Joshua and his troops crushed the army of Amalek, putting them to the sword. Exodus 17:10-13 (TLB)

  • To Be Continued ... #36 A Strategy for Surviving Spiritual Storms

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians‬ ‭6‬:‭12‬ ‭NIV‬‬‬ After all this had happened, Paul decided to go to Jerusalem, passing through Macedonia and Achaia. “After I have been there,” he said, “I must visit Rome also.” Acts‬ ‭19‬:‭21‬ ‭NIV‬‬‬‬‬ I am so eager to preach the gospel…in Rome. Romans 1:15 NIV 1. My SAILING will not be SMOOTH When it was decided that we would sail for Italy, Paul and some other prisoners were handed over to a centurion named Julius, who belonged to the Imperial Regiment. We boarded a ship… about to sail for ports along the coast of the province of Asia, and we put out to sea… There the centurion found an Alexandrian ship sailing for Italy and put us on board. We… had difficulty arriving off Cnidus. When the wind did not allow us to hold our course, we sailed to the lee of Crete, opposite Salmone. We moved along the coast with difficulty and came to a place called Fair Havens, near the town of Lasea. Much time had been lost, and sailing had already become dangerous because by now it was after the Day of Atonement ... Acts‬ ‭27‬:‭1‬-‭2‬, ‭6‬-‭9‬a ‭NIV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ WHY? Difficulty EXHIBITS my DEVOTION But there is another urgency before me now. I feel compelled to go to Jerusalem. I’m completely in the dark about what will happen when I get there. I do know that it won’t be any picnic, for the Holy Spirit has let me know repeatedly and clearly that there are hard times and imprisonment ahead. But that matters little. What matters most to me is to finish what God started: the job the Master Jesus gave me of letting everyone I meet know all about this incredibly extravagant generosity of God. Acts‬ ‭20‬:‭22‬-‭24‬ ‭MSG‬‬‬‬‬‬ WHY? Difficulty ENHANCES my DEVELOPMENT It felt like we had a death sentence written upon our hearts, and we still feel it to this day. It has taught us to lose all faith in ourselves and to place all of our trust in the God who raises the dead. 2 Corinthians‬ ‭1‬:‭9‬ ‭TPT‬‬‬‬‬ …you are temporarily harassed by all kinds of trials and temptations. This is no accident—it happens to prove your faith, which is infinitely more valuable than gold, and gold, as you know, even though it is ultimately perishable, must be purified by fire. This proving of your faith is planned to bring you praise and honor and glory in the day when Jesus Christ reveals himself. 1 Peter 1:6-9 Phillips Even though Jesus was God’s Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered. In this way, God qualified him as a perfect High Priest, and he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him. Hebrews‬ ‭5‬:‭8‬-‭9‬ ‭NLT‬‬‬‬‬‬ Keep your eyes on Jesus, our leader and instructor. He was willing to die a shameful death on the cross because of the joy he knew would be his afterwards; and now he sits in the place of honor by the throne of God. If you want to keep from becoming fainthearted and weary, think about his patience as sinful men did such terrible things to him. After all, you have never yet struggled against sin and temptation until you sweat great drops of blood. And have you quite forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you, his child? He said, “My son, don’t be angry when the Lord punishes you. Don’t be discouraged when he has to show you where you are wrong. For when he punishes you, it proves that he loves you. When he whips you, it proves you are really his child.” Let God train you, for he is doing what any loving father does for his children. Whoever heard of a son who was never corrected? If God doesn’t punish you when you need it, as other fathers punish their sons, then it means that you aren’t really God’s son at all—that you don’t really belong in his family. Since we respect our fathers here on earth, though they punish us, should we not all the more cheerfully submit to God’s training so that we can begin really to live? Our earthly fathers trained us for a few brief years, doing the best for us that they knew how, but God’s correction is always right and for our best good, that we may share his holiness. Being punished isn’t enjoyable while it is happening—it hurts! But afterwards we can see the result, a quiet growth in grace and character. Hebrews 12:2-11 TLB Think back on those early days when you first learned about Christ. Remember how you remained faithful even though it meant terrible suffering. Sometimes you were exposed to public ridicule and were beaten, and sometimes you helped others who were suffering the same things. You suffered along with those who were thrown into jail, and when all you owned was taken from you, you accepted it with joy. You knew there were better things waiting for you that will last forever. So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you! Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised. For in just a little while, the Coming One will come and not delay. And my righteous ones will live by faith. But I will take no pleasure in anyone who turns away. Hebrews 10:32-38 NLT NOTE: SHRINKING disciples produce DYING churches But we are not like those who turn away from God to their own destruction. We are the faithful ones, whose souls will be saved. Hebrews 10:39 NLT

  • To Be Continued ... #35 Responding Faithfully To Troubles

“Five days later Ananias, the high priest, arrived with some of the Jewish elders and the lawyer Tertullus, to present their case against Paul to the governor. When Paul was called in, Tertullus presented the charges against Paul in the following address to the governor: “You have provided a long period of peace for us Jews and with foresight have enacted reforms for us. For all of this, Your Excellency, we are very grateful to you. But I don’t want to bore you, so please give me your attention for only a moment. We have found this man to be a troublemaker who is constantly stirring up riots among the Jews all over the world. He is a ringleader of the cult known as the Nazarenes. Furthermore, he was trying to desecrate the Temple when we arrested him.” Acts 24:1-6 NLT Two Truths To Following Jesus Faithfully in Troubling Times I must understand that if I stand for truth troubles will come “The Lord replied, “Go! This man is the agent I have chosen to carry my name before Gentiles, kings, and Israelites. I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name.” Acts 9:15-16 CEB “If the world hates you, know that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, the world would love you as its own. However, I have chosen you out of the world, and you don’t belong to the world. This is why the world hates you. Remember what I told you, ‘Servants aren’t greater than their master.’ If the world harassed me, it will harass you too. If it kept my word, it will also keep yours. The world will do all these things to you on account of my name, because it doesn’t know the one who sent me.” John 15:18-21 CEB I understand trouble doesn’t always work out how I hope. When two years had passed, Felix was succeeded by Festus. Since Felix wanted to grant a favor to the Jews, he left Paul in prison. Acts 24:27 CEB How To Face Accusations And Maintain My Example I Should Begin with wisdom and respect. “The governor motioned for Paul to speak. Paul responded, “I know that you have been a judge over this nation for many years. So I’m pleased to present my case to you.” Acts 24:10 GW A gentle answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger. Proverbs 15:1 NASB “Look, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. Matthew 10:16 MEV I defend myself and the Way of Jesus without attacking others. “So I gladly make my defense. You can easily verify that no more than twelve days ago I went up to Jerusalem to worship. My accusers did not find me arguing with anyone at the temple, or stirring up a crowd in the synagogues or anywhere else in the city. And they cannot prove to you the charges they are now making against me. “However, I admit that I worship the God of our ancestors as a follower of the Way, which they call a sect. I believe everything that is in accordance with the Law and that is written in the Prophets,” Acts 24:10c-14 NIV But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect… 1 Peter 3:15 ESV I know that my defense is not the end game, the Gospel is. “Several days later Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish. He sent for Paul and listened to him as he spoke about faith in Christ Jesus.” Acts 24:24 NIV “I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what happened to me has helped to spread the Good News. As a result, it has become clear to all the soldiers who guard the emperor and to everyone else that I am in prison because of Christ. So through my being in prison, the Lord has given most of our brothers and sisters confidence to speak God’s word more boldly and fearlessly than ever.” Philippians 1:12-14 GW I utilize all freedoms granted to me in order to further the gospel. Paul defended himself, saying, “I have done nothing wrong against the Jewish law, against the Temple, or against Caesar.” But Festus wanted to please the Jews. So he asked Paul, “Do you want to go to Jerusalem for me to judge you there on these charges?”… No, I want Caesar to hear my case!” Festus talked about this with his advisors. Then he said, “You have asked to see Caesar, so you will go to Caesar!” Acts 25:8-9,11c-12 ERV Throwback to another time Paul utilized his freedom for the gospel… “The jailer woke up and saw the prison doors open. Thinking the prisoners had escaped, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself. But Paul shouted as loudly as he could, “Don’t hurt yourself! We’re all here!” Acts 16:27-28 GW

  • What Only A Blind Man Can See

LIKE SAUL OF TARSUS, I NEED TO SEE THAT… 1. MY TRADITION CAN BLIND ME FROM THE TRUTH. "Brothers and fathers, listen now to my defense." 2 When they heard him speak to them in Aramaic, they became very quiet. Then Paul said: 3 "I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city. I studied under Gamaliel and was thoroughly trained in the law of our ancestors... Acts 22:1-3a (NIV) 2. I CAN BE ZEALOUS FOR GOD, BUT LOST. …I was just as zealous for God as any of you are today. 4 I persecuted the followers of this Way to their death, arresting both men and women and throwing them into prison, 5 as the high priest and all the Council can themselves testify. I even obtained letters from them to their associates in Damascus, and went there to bring these people as prisoners to Jerusalem to be punished. Acts 22:3b-5 (NIV) Zeal is not good without knowledge, and the one who acts hastily sins. Proverbs 19:2 (HCSB) 3. JESUS IS WHO HE CLAIMED TO BE. “About noon as I came near Damascus, suddenly a bright light from heaven flashed around me. 7 I fell to the ground and heard a voice say to me, ‘Saul! Saul! Why do you persecute me?’8 “‘Who are you, Lord?’ I asked.“ ‘I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you are persecuting,’ he replied. 10 My companions saw the light, but they did not understand the voice of him who was speaking to me. 10 “‘What shall I do, Lord?’ I asked.“ ‘Get up,’ the Lord said, ‘and go into Damascus. There you will be told all that you have been assigned to do. Acts 22:6-10 (NIV) We want to tell you about the Word[a] that gives life—the one who existed before the world began. This is the one we have heard and have seen with our own eyes. We saw what he did, and our hands touched him. 2 Yes, the one who is life was shown to us. We saw him, and so we can tell others about him. We now tell you about him. He is the eternal life that was with God the Father and was shown to us. 1 John 1:1, 2 (ERV) 4. GOD WILL HUMBLE ME IN ORDER TO HELP ME. My companions led me by the hand into Damascus, because the brilliance of the light had blinded me. Acts 22: 11 (NIV) He leads humble people to do what is right, and he teaches them his way. Psalm 25:9 (GW) 5. FINDING JESUS INVOLVES FOLLOWING PEOPLE. My companions led me by the hand into Damascus, because the brilliance of the light had blinded me. 12 “A man named Ananias came to see me. He was a devout observer of the law and highly respected by all the Jews living there. 13 He stood beside me and said, ‘Brother Saul, receive your sight!’ And at that very moment I was able to see him. Acts 22: 11-13 (NIV) 6. GOD STILL HAS A PURPOSE FOR HIS LIFE. “Then he said: ‘The God of our ancestors has chosen you to know his will and to see the Righteous One and to hear words from his mouth. 15 You will be his witness to all people of what you have seen and heard. Acts 22: 14-15 (NIV) God has made us what we are. In Christ Jesus, God made us new people so that we would spend our lives doing the good things he had already planned for us to do. Ephesians 2:10 (ERV) 7. SAVING FAITH IS OBEDIENT FAITH. And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.’ Acts 22: 16 (NIV) He will take revenge on those who do not know God and on those who refuse to obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9 Such people will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction by being separated from the Lord’s presence and from his glorious power. 2 Thessalonians 1:8b-9 (ISV)
